What is the Difference Between NPT, BSSP and BSPT?
Rate me Please! 😊
The difference between the flows of NPT and BSP is more related to their place of residence than to their applications. Both NPT and BSP are standard for pipe threads used in pipes and fittings used to seal pipes.
BSP – United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa (most countries in the world)
TNP – EE. United States, Canada
Both children have the same height and familiar shapes of peaks and valleys. However, the designs of the cables differ in two main ways. With the NPT, the peaks and valleys are flat. In BSP they are rounded. Second, the NPT thread angle is 60 degrees and the BSP angle is 55 degrees.
NPT connections
NPT (National Pipe Thread) seals are the most popular type of seal for pressure calibration systems in the United States and Canada. External NPT adapters have a conical thread embedded in the female NPT adapter. They are compacted due to the “principle of roundness”, which means that the man tightens the female connection until there is a force such that the joint can withstand the pressure.
One of the problems with this design is that when connecting stainless steel to stainless steel, excessive tension or insufficient lubrication can cause torsion and damage to the thread. To seal, a thread sealer is required, but only 2 turns of thread sealant are required. In addition, the seal may drip around the thread sealant. Ralston Instruments offers a wide range of male NPT adapters, NPT adapters with quick connectors, NPT gauges with external thread, NPT adapters with internal threads, NPT adapters with internal thread and NPT quick change adapters.
BSPT connections
British Standard Pipe Thread (BSPT) is similar to NPT except for important differences. The angle at the sides of the wire (if the joint is cut in half and the angle between the root, the crest and the root is measured) is 55 degrees, not 60 degrees, as in the case of the NPT. Another important difference is that for many BSPT tube sizes, the pitch of the thread is different from that of the NPT.
Therefore, the male NPT will sometimes be inserted into the BSPT connector or vice versa, but will not be sealed. It is popular in China and Japan, but is rarely used in North America unless the material to which it is connected is imported. A cable sealant is required to seal female and female accessories. Ralston Instruments offers adapters for BSPT male and BSPT female.
BSPP connections
BSPP is the most popular in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. This is a parallel threaded connection that uses an O-ring for sealing. This annular gasket is inserted between the collar of the female connector and the front side of the female connector and compresses into place.
The BSPP meters have a longer thread and use a narrow copper compression washer between the bottom of the male fitting and the bottom of the female BSPP hole, forming an airtight seal. No sealant is required to form a seal. Ralston Instruments offers BSPP adapters with external wire, BSPP adapters with internal wire, adapters for BSPP sensors with internal wire and adapters for BSPP quick release sensors with internal wire.
